Trends in Adult Education
Classrooms are evolving and ever changing with the advancement of technology. I have narrowed down the top new trends in adult education.
This article provided by linkedin explains the new trends and challenges in adult education.
Top trends
1. Online, blended and mobile - Tom Vander Ark quotes NMC Horizon Report: “If institutions do not already have robust strategies for integrating these now pervasive approaches, then they simply will not survive.” Covid-19 forever changed the adult education landscape, introducing the world to virtual learning.
2. UI/UX - User interface and user experience virtual reality is being used to train. we still learn and retain the most information when we get to practice what we learn. Studies have shown that, on average, learning through experience increases retention by between 75-90%.
3. Self-directed Learning - Adult learning trends have been moving away from traditional instructor-led, and toward an environment of accountability. Since adults require learning at their own discretion and that works within their busy schedules, self-directed learning is more ideal than traditional classroom-style education. It allows adult learners to be proactive in their educations, and to contribute to the learning process.
4. Game-based Learning - Games aren’t just for kids! Gamification of learning can be a very effective tool for adult learning. It involves using game concepts to deliver material. Gamification increases engagement with, and retention of, learning materials.
I find myself excited to bring some of these trends into my classroom. With game-based learning I have used Kahoot in the past, which was an easy platform to use. Check this link out. Kahoot! | Learning games | Make learning awesome! I hope you find some inspiration for your classroom.
